'The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot' tells the story of war veteran, Calvin Barr, who has to leave behind his true love in order to go on a secret mission to kill Adolph Hitler during World War II. As the film opens Barr is now an aging man who is attempting to come to terms with what he did and the fact that he lost the one love of his life for good while he was away. He carries with him guilt and regret but just when he begins find some peace he receives a knock on the door. The U.S. and Canadian government needs Barr to go on one last mission. To find and kill Bigfoot who is carrying a deadly plague like virus.
A film with the name, 'The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot' would lead you to think it is a grind-house type, over the top action flick but what we get is instead an adventure/drama that is more about the man than about anything else. It is an engaging and thought-provoking film that sports an amazing cast led by the always stellar, Sam Elliott. Other cast members that shine are Aidan Turner as young Barr, Ron Livingston as a government agent and Larry Miller who plays Barr's brother, Ed.
Another impressive thing about the film was the look and the sound, both were fantastic and the incredible visual effects were done by celebrated two-time Academy Award Winner Douglas Trumbull (2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, BLADE RUNNER.)
I have to admit I was expecting something a bit different before watching the film especially since there was no access to a trailer online for it but to be honest I was pleased with the type of personal story that Writer/Director, Robert D. Krzykowski created.
A film that has Sam Elliott, Hitler and Bigfoot in it is a dream for most fans of cinema and though the film is a lot different from I expected it to be it still kicks ass and it gets the audience thinking. Sam Elliott makes you feel for Barr right from the start and the action toward the end of film is sure to satisfy everyone.
'The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot' is both intriguing and original. It is also heartfelt and engaging all the way to the end. This is my Fantasia 2018 review for the film but I highly recommend keeping an eye out to find out where you might be able to check out this little gem yourself.
