The Place For The Latest Movie Reviews
Hard times and holiday tensions teach a father, Michael Harris (Ruben Studdard, American Idol), what Christmas is all about. When both Michael and his wife Sandra’s (Golden Brooks, Girlfriends) parents come for an unannounced visit, what should be a joyous and festive holiday turns into chaos. Michael learns that of all the many gifts he gives to his family, the gift of giving oneself is the greatest gift of all.
straight to DVD stage play, The Perfect Gift. The play stars singer Ruben Studdard, (winner – “American Idol Season 2”, Grammy® nominee) and actress Golden Brooks (“Girlfriends”, The Inheritance, Beauty Shop). As far as the story goes here there really isn't anything new, it's a story of a feuding family who finally realize what is most important around the Christmas holiday. I already knew Golden Brooks was a very good actress but was a bit worried about Ruben Studdard in a lead role but to my surprise he does a very good job playing the lead. The play also has an excellent supporting cast including, Darius McCrary, Chris Spencer, Buddy Lewis and the always reliable Clifton Powell who seems to be in every stage play released nowadays.
Like I said before the story is a universal one, it sends the message of giving oneself which is the true meaning of Christmas rather than expensive material things. I had a good time watching "The Perfect Gift," it's a very funny play that is at times touching while sending out a strong message through feel-good entertainment.
The DVD comes with Special Features that include:
Buddy tells the jokes

There's certainly a market of these stage plays so if you enjoy them I highly recommend picking this one up, it may contain a lot of the same themes most others have but it's well-acted and well-written plus the lessons given out can be applied to our everyday lives and not just around the holiday season.
