David Harris (David Lipper) is normal in almost every way, but has to fight through a crippling obsessive compulsive disorder, brought on by his abusive father during his childhood. His OCD forces him to repeat movements and phrases and confines him to the safety of his home. Following his father’s death, David’s estranged relatives arrive to hear the reading of the will in anticipation for their piece of the fortune. They are surprised by the delivery of a “Lovecraft” style antique box instead. The box takes hold of their inner most desires one by one and entices the dangerous behavior that ensues. Will they last through the night or be wishing they never gave into temptation?

'The Unwilling' tells the story of David, an architect who suffers from OCD brought on by his abusive father's actions when he was growing up. David is stuck inside his beautiful home but still suffers from the abuse from all those years ago. When he receives a call that his father has passed away the family is told to meet at David's home for the reading of the will. Most seem to be eager in hopes that they were left money but instead of the lawyer showing up he just sends them a cryptic message and a grotesque box arrives at the door.

There does not seem to be any way to open the box but it has hidden compartments that target each member of the family through their desires. Upon receiving what they think is what the want they become possessed with a demon. Now they must try and survive the night.

'The Unwilling' is a low budget horror film shot on 4K video by Oscar-nominated director Jonathan Heap, Oscar-winning and Emmy-winning Cinematographer David Stump, acclaimed producer Julia Verdin, writer, co-producer and star David Lipper and co-producer Philip Morton who is an award-winning screenwriter. The film looks and sounds fantastic and the effects while not top notch are still perfect for the film.

I did not think that it was very scary but it was engaging. I enjoyed the characters and they are all well-written so it was easy for me to care for them in one way or another. The film is creepy at times and the story is creative and imaginative. You become immediately invested in what happens to the characters and you are become anxious to see what is going to happen next.

'The Unwilling' is a fast paced horror thriller and delivers on everything it promises. Another thing that made the movie so good was the cast, Lance Henriksen has a small but important role as the abusive father and again it is always great to see him in another movie. David Lipper also stars as David, besides being one of the producers of the film and he does a great job playing a complex character. And then there is the beautiful and talented Dina Meyer (Saw I-II-III-IV, Piranha 3D, Starship Troopers), she is terrific as the sister and she also supplies some star power to the film. The rest of the cast all did a fantastic job playing their roles as well.

'The Unwilling' is a fun and entertaining thriller that has a number of twists and turns especially towards the end to keep you on the edge of your seat. It will be on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD May 1st so I highly recommend checking it out. This is a clever and unique horror/thriller that is sure to please all fans.
