Ill prepared and naïve, Noelle (Lacey Chabert) and her husband Bryan (Tygh Runyan) accompany another couple on what they think will be a sexy photo shoot in the desert. Her worst fears become a reality after their car crashes into a ravine, leaving them stranded in the desert struggling to survive. Following their devastating car crash, Noelle’s group is left marooned with little water, no shelter, and no cell phone reception. Forced to ration their supplies, tensions rise as quickly as the dry desert heat. Dehydrated, lost, and hopeless, one by one the group begins to fall victim to the relentless elements. Miles away from civilization, suffering from delirium, and dying of thirst, will anyone make it out alive?
Thirst is a story of survival when all hope seems lost, these two couples go into the desert not really prepared in the event of an accident of any kind and their worse nightmare comes true when their car crashes. This is one of those movies that moves along at a nice pace but the story itself is deliberately slow but there's good reason for that. The story slowly builds on suspense and tension between the characters as their water begins to run out and by the time the film is halfway over the levels of both are at an all-time high. To go into what does or doesn't happen to the four characters would only ruin the film for those of you wanting to see it but I can say that between the desert and the friends who slowly turn on each other there is bound to be some carnage along the way. This is one of those movies that was better than the trailer made it out to be, the production was better and I thought the acting over-all was very good as well. Every movie has it's star and Lacy Chabert is the star here even though each character shares as much of the story as the others do. Thirst may not be perfect or even original for that matter but it does do what it sets out to do well. I certainly felt dread for these people and I felt their pain and desperation as well. If you like a good thriller or story of survival against mother nature then I suggest picking Thirst up. I found it to be an entertaining film that kept me invested and at times on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. The DVD is bare-bones without any special features except for a few trailers but the film is still worth checking out. It's not perfect but I have seen a lot worse and I had a good time watching it.
