Visioneer George Washington Winsterhammerman lives a comfortable but monotonous life in this slightly futuristic black comedy. But when people start exploding from stress and George is showing early symptoms, he's forced to examine his life. Taking a look at his prestigious job, his sexless marriage and his resistance to life coaching, George reconsiders the philosophy of happiness through mindless activity.
I have seen plenty of mixed reviews on this one but I have been wanting to see this since I saw the trailer. The trailer is a dead giveaway that what you are going to see is something different, in no way would you call this a commercial film but I got to say I liked the style and the message it gives. I think many of those that seen this that didn't like it were some how looking for something completely different, sure their is some very good dark humor here but the film is not a laugh a minute and it has a very deliberate slow pace to it. Zach Galifianakis from "The Hangover" plays the lead role here and he does a fantastic job, those of you seeing Zach for the first time in "The Hangover" will be surprised at just how much depth this great actor has. The supporting cast is just as impressive including James LeGros as his crazy brother. Visioneers is an absurd comedy, played straight, about a man working for a huge corporation trying to find some kind of meaning and happiness in his life. I will not go into major details on the story itself so not to ruin it for those that might not of seen it yet but I can say that it is a film that is as thought-provoking as it is funny. A thinking man's comedy that slowly tells its tale and in the end it rewards the audience for sticking with it. I admit this will not be for everyone but for those that appreciate something a little different then I would have to say that this is a gem that shouldn't be missed. The film certainly burrows a lot from other movies such as, Hudsucker, Brazil and 1984 but it brings a freshness to the table as well. Different? Yes. Amazing? most definitely.
