Cast: Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy, Slither, “The Walking Dead”), Bruce Willis (Red, Looper, Die Hard franchise), Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion, Seven Psychopaths, Quantum of Solace), Vadhir Derbez (The Seventh Day, How to Be a Latin Lover, 3 idiotas) and John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich, In the Line of Fire)
In WHITE ELEPHANT, when an assassination attempt is witnessed by two cops, Gabriel Tancredi, an ex-marine turned mob enforcer (Michael Rooker), is ordered by his ruthless mob boss (Bruce Willis) to eliminate any and all threats. With an eager underling out to prove himself, rival gangs making moves and a rising body count, every step Tancredi makes threatens lives, including his own.
Going off the synopsis above you can tell that 'White Elephant' is a simple story much like loads of other action/thrillers like it but there are several things it has going for that other films like it lack. The biggest difference is that this film has characters that are fully developed so it is easy to care for each one of them in one way or another.
Another thing that makes the film better than a lot of others is its cast. Michael Rooker headlines the cast as the aging enforcer and loyal friend to mob boos, Arnold. Rooker gives an outstanding performance opposite Bruce Willis as the mob boss in one of his final films. Olga Kurylenko plays the one cop who hasn't been taken out yet and John Malkovich stars as Glen Follett, Arnold's Lawyer. Malkovich isn't in the film a lot but he steals each scene he is in with his screen presence.
'White Elephant' was directed by Jesse V. Johnson who wrote the film along with Erik Martinez. Johnson a former stunt-man turned director really knows how to turn up the heat when it comes to action films. So expect loads of action, gunfire, and blood when sitting down to watch this one.
'White Elephant' is a story about loyalty, revenge, and redemption. I enjoyed the film a lot and I recommend it to anyone that loves a good action film. Available on DVD and Blu-ray August 2, 2022. Do yourself a favor and check out this entertaining thrill ride.
