When failed comic Gus Lawton pushes his wife too far, he finds himself chasing her across the country to the abandoned farmhouse of her childhood. Given the choice between losing Deborah or living by her plan, Gus gets busy fixing up the old place. Starting with the septic tank. In a moment of desperation, he digs up the very thing he needs, a zombie who'll do anything he wants... for now, anyway. As the zombie's own desires threaten their plans, Gus and Deborah come together in a desperate struggle to get what they want, regardless of the cost.

The zombie genre is hot again thanks in part to the hit film "Zombieland" so it is no wonder we are seeing more of them popping up as of late. Zombie Dearest is another new flick but instead of going off of the tired old theme this one is different in a good way. The film is about a couple, Gus and Deborah who just don't see eye to eye anymore so Deborah decides to leave and head back to her childhood home. Gus follows and after arriving he promises to fix up the old house and mend his ways. Gus stays home and works around the house while Deborah goes to work, one day when digging in the back yard to fix a sewage line Gus unearths a zombie. Once he sees the living dead will do anything he tells him to do he decides to let him do the work and work on his comic act instead. The film moves forward from there mixing a romantic comedy with some zany undead moments. There is not much gore to talk about here as this sort of takes the genre and flips it on it's head. I never once found the film to be scary but what I did find it to be was a funny, original and well-written film that is always entertaining. The cast was excellent including David Kemker who also directed the film plays Gus and Shauna Black as Deborah. Both actors have great chemistry together and both have terrific comedic timing. I can't say this will be for everyone since it is not your typical blood and guts zombie flick but if your looking for something different to watch then you are going to want to pick this up. The zombie genre can be a little boring after awhile so I felt this was very refreshing and extremely funny. The couple find it hard to get their relationship back together when a zombie wants to crash their place and toss some chaos into their lives. Highly entertaining and worth checking out.
